Sotomayor unsure of right to self-defense?!

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) asked Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor a simple question:

“As a citizen of this country, do you believe innately in my ability to have self-defense of myself – personal self-defense? Do I have a right to personal self-defense?”

Sotomayor answered:

“I’m trying to think if I remember a case where the Supreme Court has addressed that particular question. Is there a constitutional right to self-defense? And I can’t think of one. I could be wrong, but I can’t think of one.”

The senator then followed up asking her for a personal opinion, which Sotomayor evaded a firm answer.

      6 million jews went to the gas chambers along with 5 million other ethnic minorities, after Hitler used gun control laws in Germany to disarm them. That’s what happens when people do not have the right to firearms and self defense – Sotomayor will cause the next such genocide with her ignorance of human nature and our founding fathers’ wisdom.

        The right to bear arms is such a unique idea. It illustrates the Framers’ political philosophy of checks-and-balances, this being between the government and the citizens — the ultimate check-and-balance. For self defense also, but on a grander scale, they have instilled their sacrifice and love for liberty into the Constitution.

      Anyone who doesn’t know if they have the right to self defense lives in a land of make believe or is so far removed from the basic social norms that I believe they should not be in a position to judge laws that influences the lives of millions of Americans, yet it is too late and she is in that position. I am not advocating violence against her or anyone, but I wonder what should would do if someone sat her in a chair all alone and slapped her, then slapped her again. Would she raise her hand to block the second slap? I wonder what her view of self defense is after such an incident?
