Some have dubbed it the worst scientific scandal of our time. The leaked emails from the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit remain a dark cloud over the global warming alarmists and its once esteemed researchers.
Enough pressure has mounted that CRU will now reverse its stance on releasing the raw data used in the climate change studies:
The U-turn by the university follows a week of controversy after the emergence of hundreds of leaked emails, “stolen” by hackers and published online, triggered claims that the academics had massaged statistics.
In a statement welcomed by climate change sceptics, the university said it would make all the data accessible as soon as possible, once its Climatic Research Unit (CRU) had negotiated its release from a range of non-publication agreements.
Of course, nobody knows when “as soon as possible” is. At this point it appears not only these researchers conspired to manipulate climate data, but worldwide media outlets are conspiring to ignore the news. Instead, all focus is on the Copenhagen summit where world leaders will be discussing global warming. (Unsurprisingly, the first headline of the site reads, “Needed: money on the table.” More proof that it’s just a wealth redistribution scam on a global scale.)
The implosion seems to be accelerating as even U.N. scientists are now targeting each other:
A UN scientist is declaring that his three fellow UN climate panel colleagues “should be barred from the IPCC process.” In a November 26, 2009 message on his website, UN IPCC contributing author Dr. Eduardo Zorita writes: “CRU files: Why I think that Michael Mann, Phil Jones and Stefan Rahmstorf should be barred from the IPCC process.”
Zorita writes: “Short answer: Because the scientific assessments in which they may take part are not credible anymore.”
Zorita indicates that he is aware that he is putting his career in jeopardy by going after the upper echelon of UN IPCC scientists. “By writing these lines I will just probably achieve that a few of my future studies will, again, not see the light of publication,” Zorita candidly admits, a reference to the ClimateGate emails discussing how to suppress data and scientific studies that do not agree with the UN IPCC views.
Ouch. I expect more global warming researchers will shift into CYA gear in the coming weeks. No one in academia wants to be discredited — it spells the death of a career. In this economy even the climate scientists want to keep their jobs.
Watching a bunch of climate scientists throw mud at each other may be entertaining this holiday season when we’re freezing our butts off.
