Justice Department urged to investigate BCS

Could there be any more wasteful effort coming from our lawmakers?! Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) wants the DOJ to investigate Bowl Championship Series (think college football) for antitrust violations:

Hatch said that the BCS is exploiting a position of power, “and it’s just not right.”

Hatch’s comments followed up on testimony by a lawyer for the Mountain West Conference, which does not get an automatic bid and has pressed for changes to the BCS. Utah, which is in the Mountain West, was bypassed for last year’s national championship despite going undefeated in the regular season. The title game pitted Florida against Oklahoma _ each with one loss.

You know what’s really an antitrust violation? Politicians like Hatch in Washington! I think the country will be just fine no matter how the BCS conducts its business…
