In a case of government knee-jerk reaction to the swine flu, Egypt has begun slaughtering pigs in an attempt to contain the spread of the illness. Do they know that there are less than 10 confirmed deaths worldwide from this flu so far, and none from Egypt? And they want to kill off 400,000 pigs.
(Un)surprisingly, animal rights organization PETA remains silent on the Egyptian swine mass massacre. PETA blames factory farming, even though I’m pretty sure free range pigs could contract this virus as well. Factory farms would actually make it easier to contain the spread of the virus because it’s less difficult to cull them, as Egypt is doing.
