My fellow Americans,
Please observe a moment of silence to honor the victims and heroes of 9/11. Thousands of innocent civilians and countless emergency workers died from these terrorist attacks. I still have to hold back tears every time I see footage of the planes slamming into the Twin Towers.
Still today some ask, “Why was America attacked?” Is it our alliance with Israel? Is it our wealth? Is it our military might?
Although passenger planes were hijacked and flown into the Twin Towers, a symbol of America’s financial strength, and the Pentagon, America’s military command center, it’s clear that the al Qaeda terrorists underestimated America. This country is not about wealth or military power. America is synonymous with freedom, something the terrorists were envious of. It’s because of freedom that America is wealthy and strong.
The fact that these young Muslim men would dedicate themselves to the deviant craft of killing innocent men, women, and children by committing suicide could only mean one thing: their bondage into hatred. Something in their souls have gone missing, something that distinguishes men from monsters. Imagine what it must’ve been like for them in their daily lives… Every waking hour they think about death to others and to themselves, consumed by irrational hate and violence. They were far from free. But of course, they see that in America even their Muslim brothers and sisters live freely and are awarded the same opportunities as other Americans. Al Qaeda wouldn’t allow it.
So my friends, take time to remember 9/11 but more importantly, take time to appreciate the freedom we enjoy today. Some of us may have lost our jobs, our homes, our investments, our health, our families, but none of us should lose our freedom in this land. Appreciate it and defend it, for we have seen with our own eyes what bondage could do to men…
May God bless America.
