Bipartisanship be damned

During his campaign, Barack Obama promised bipartisanship and transparency. It was a message of unity and change. With the media’s promotion, he won the election to be the new president.

He was a very good campaigner, but now he’s discovering that being the president is much tougher than being a candidate.

His policies and Congress’ push for them have met with broad criticism from the stimulus package to the bank bailouts to health care reform. Obviously he’d thought that getting elected meant the whole country was behind him in anything and everything…

That’s far from the truth. Now it seems the White House and Democrats are abandoning efforts to negotiate with Republicans to reach any sort of bipartisan agreement on the health care bill. Instead, the administration and Congressional leaders will target their own ranks to find a way to pass the bill.

There are better odds with that strategy, but it could still be a long shot. If the town hall meetings are any indication of public opinion, then the Democrats are in trouble if they continue to push for ObamaCare. And any Democratic member of Congress who wants to keep his or her job on Capitol Hill better take note and not kowtow to a bullying administration.
