About twenty liberal Democrats are advocating the allowance of illegal aliens to have some sort of coverage in the health care reform even though President Obama and Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) have resisted the idea. Rep. Michael Honda (D-CA), a member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, and his peers reason that:
“Legal permanent residents should be able to purchase their plans, and they should also be eligible for subsidies if they need it. Undocumented, if they can afford it, should be able to buy their own private plans. It keeps them out of the emergency room,” said Rep. Michael M. Honda, California Democrat and chairman of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.
Mr. Honda was joined by more than 20 of his colleagues in two letters laying out the demands.
So let’s think this through… People break the law to come into the U.S., probably never file income tax returns, mostly able to work only undocumented cash jobs or remain unemployed, and therefore incapable of affording their own health insurance. If they are here illegally, the government should not give them any incentive to remain here as lawbreakers. If an illegal alien can acquire enough wealth to afford an insurance plan, it’s still preferred that he takes that wealth and move back to where he came from, and use that money to apply for legal entry into America.
And stop calling them “undocumented.”
