Is it just me or have you also felt that the country’s lost its direction since Obama entered the White House? I don’t know about you, but I’ve always known what America stood for: freedom, opportunity, capitalism, justice, faith, etc. — y’know, all the good stuff that’s made America the envy of the world in its short history.
But as each day passes by with more worrisome news about world affairs, the economy, and domestic issues, and the administration’s reaction, I feel as if a tiny piece of the nation’s soul is peeled away. Government bailouts. Nationalization. Union influence. Nuclear threats. Islamofascism. Porous borders. Record deficits. And the list goes on…
The economy — although analysts claim that the economy is on a slow rebound, we’ve yet to see any encouraging evidence. The unemployment rate remains unchanged. The housing market continues on its downward spiral. Congress and the W.H. have no plans to reign in spending and still pushed for legislation which they knew would take the country deeper into debt. Even worse, they’re floating ideas of more taxes and higher taxes in order to generate revenues for the government, ignorant to the fact that tax increases in this down economy would be detrimental to families, many of whom are without income or delinquent in mortgages. America now relies on communist China to lend us money by buying trillions of dollars of debt, yet it’s clear China doesn’t have the best intentions for America.
With President Obama in the office and him constantly acting like he’s still on a campaign tour — or worse yet, a world apology tour — other nations and peoples have lost hope in America, ally or not. Long-time friends Britain, Australia, and Israel have deemed America unable to offer protection as an ally. The Muslim World openly defies us as evidenced in Iran’s bloody crackdown of pro-democracy protests and Turkey’s siding with the recent anti-Israeli flotilla. Islamic terrorists continue to cause havoc on our soil. The W.H. won’t comment on the plan to build a mega-mosque near Ground Zero, but certainly has unloaded tons of criticism toward BP.
Instead of enforcing federal immigration laws, the administration only has one thing in mind: demonizing Arizona and the state’s new immigration law, which interestingly just reiterates the federal law. Now the DOJ will take Arizona to court over the law, claiming that immigration law enforcement is under federal jurisdiction. No kidding, then do your job! In a midterm election year this development only means one thing: the Democrats pandering to Hispanic voters. That’s the honest answer as this isn’t about the law, it’s about staying in power.
And the lack of leadership in the BP oil spill crisis? BP is receiving the brunt of the complaints but Gulf state governments are also criticizing the administration for all the red tape and inaction. Some of these governors even decided to take actions into their own hands instead of waiting for answers from the federal government. In order to deflect all the negative press aimed at the W.H., the administration “kindly asked” BP to put up $20 billion in escrow for use to compensate the victims of the spill, namely local businesses. Come on, Mr. President… you can take BP to court, you can badmouth BP, but can you ask them to put their own money in an escrow? This is a dangerous precedent — what’s to stop the administration from asking for escrow money from other private corporations? Pass a law first, then we’d feel better about such “requests.”
Now we learn of a very public confrontation between Gen. McCrystal and President Obama over a Rolling Stones interview piece of the general. No doubt this will add a layer of uncertainty in the already unpredictable war in Afghanistan. Gen. McCrystal has been doing a good job there so let’s hope the president keeps cool and does the right thing.
