Bailing out snail mail

The U.S. Postal Service is in deep trouble ever since… well, since the likes of UPS and FedEx were able to deliver better service in the market. The USPS was in trouble way before the recession, but now it’s lobbying Congress for some financial relief.

But let’s step back and look at the situation. Seriously, would anyone notice if the USPS went out of business today? Considering how email, SMS, IM, Twitter, and other online means of communication are used these days, plus online bill pay services becoming a must-have offering from banks, who uses USPS anymore? Granted, there are people and organizations that still use them for mail and parcel delivery, but it’s not like there aren’t alternatives.

It’s time to let the snail die.
