Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, son of senator-turned-V.P. Joe Biden, has publicly announced that he won’t run for U.S. Senate to fill his father’s old seat. Instead he will seek re-election as attorney general of the state:
“I have a duty to fulfill as attorney general — and the immediate need to focus on a case of great consequence. And that is what I must do,” Beau Biden said in a statement. “Therefore I cannot and will not run for the United States Senate in 2010. I will run for reelection as attorney general.”
Did the decision have something to do with the senate race outcome in Massachusetts? His decision offers the Republicans a golden opportunity to pick up the seat, with Rep. Mike Castle leading double digits against potential Democrat challenger Christopher Coons. Imagine that — another Republican senator in a deep blue New England state!
