President Obama’s bipartisan health care summit is nothing more than a show. There are fundamental differences between Republican and Democrat ideas on health care reform, and there’s no way they will be resolved by the end of the summit (4:15pm ET, according to the president). This summit is a waste of time and energy and taxpayer money.
The Democrats have already made up their minds: pass this through reconciliation with 51 votes.
This summit is merely a political investment by the president and his Democrats. They need to put on a show of “reaching across the aisle,” but everybody in that room realize nothing will be agreed upon. So do everyone watching the summit. After the summit, the Democrats can proudly point out that they behaved in a bipartisan way to work out a health care deal. They will tell the American people that the Republicans declined to cooperate in reforming health care.
Yawn. Move on, there’s nothing to see here…
