Joseph Cao opposes Senate health care bill

Rep. Anh “Joseph” Cao (R-LA) was the only Republican to vote with the House Democrats on its version of the health care bill, but will oppose the Senate health care bill. Now with the Massachusetts Senate race potentially throwing a wrench into the Senate Democrat caucus, the White House and some Senate aides are focusing on passing the Senate health care bill.

“It’s a complete deal breaker with him if there’s not sufficient language to protect the lives of the unborn,” said Smith, citing her boss’s beliefs, his training as a Catholic priest and his role as adviser to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. “The Senate version does not have that sufficient language.”

I’m thinking it’s not just Rep. Cao that’s turned off by the abortion language in the Senate bill. Many moderate House Democrats have voiced their concern about this as well. If the W.H. does decide to ram this thing through again, the political dynamics have changed significantly enough that more moderates are likely to hold the line rather than caving in.
