Liz Cheney’s Keep America Safe

Liz Cheney, famous daughter of former V.P. Dick Cheney, has teamed up with conservative heavyweight Bill Kristol to form Keep America Safe:

The mission of Keep America Safe is to provide information for concerned Americans about critical national security issues. Keep America Safe seeks to influence public policy by encouraging dialogue between American citizens and their elected representatives in order to produce legislation and executive action that enhances the national security of the United States.

This seems a natural fit considering Liz’s background in law and foreign policy, having worked extensively at the State Department. Previously she’s also appeared on TV frequently to debate the legality and issues surrounding the CIA torture cases and the DOJ’s insistence on launching a deep investigation. And more often than not, to show support for her father and the policies of his administration.

Go on YouTube to take a look at her TV appearances and debating several liberal talking heads. She can clearly hold her own and sometimes even decimate the opposition. To the disappointment of many conservatives, she’s already publicly declared no intention of running for office, instead focusing on her family, her father’s book, and now, Keep America Safe.

And for reasons similar to Bush Derangement Syndrome, the Cheney name also conjures up a far-reaching hatred among the liberals. David Corn lays out the hawk and neocon in her, “Life Father, Like Daughter“:

That seems to be the credo of the neoconservatives, for as we had discussed on “Hardball,” this band of die-hard hawks has launched yet another outfit to advance their cause — and make the case for war and military confrontation around the world. What’s new, though, is that now they have Liz Cheney, the daughter of the ex-veep, leading their charge.

Earlier in the day, the news had hit that the eldest of Cheney’s two daughters has created a group called Keep America Safe to whip up opposition to the foreign policy of President Obama. And for this new venture, she’s partnering with Bill Kristol, the kingpin of the neocon crew.

Then makes fun of neocons:

With his pre-existing shops, why does Kristol need Keep America Safe? Well, neocons do like setting up committees. It’s like a hobby for them: The Committee to Defend This, The Committee to Protect That. But it seems that one goal of this new project is to enshrine Liz Cheney as the face of the hawkish opposition. And she appears eager to carry on in her father’s tradition and blast away at the president. She told Politico that “the policies being proposed by the Obama administration are so radical across the board.” Like father, like daughter, right? (You might ask, what’s so “radical” about increasing the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan, attacking al-Qaida and Taliban leaders with Predator drones in Pakistan, and agreeing with John McCain that waterboarding is torture and wrong?)

Neocons like to set up committees? Just like liberals enjoy creating grassroots community organizations like ACORN and anything with the word “progress” in it. Liberal, progressive organizations often turn out to be fronts for fraudulent and even criminal activities.

Mr. Corn opines that the Cheney name will be a curse rather than a blessing:

Placing Liz Cheney in charge of the latest neocon assault on Obama might not be the dumbest move Kristol has made. But it’s far from the sharpest. He and his Churchill-loving, armchair comrades-in-arms certainly are not giving in. They never do. But by tying their opposition to the Cheney name, they are practically giving aid and comfort to the Obama White House.

I’m not so sure considering how Obama is hovering around 50% approval rating and Congress (with Democrat majority) is around 30%. There isn’t a Cheney in office now, and most Americans would agree that it’s the person sitting in the Oval Office that has to be held accountable for America.
