After insisting on going through re-election, New York Gov. David Paterson will now abandon his re-election hopes but will serve out his current term. The Democrat establishment always had somebody else in mind for that job: Andrew Cuomo. I think the establishment finally got what it wanted with the revelation of a scandal:
Paterson has been under fire for having contacted a woman who accused one of his top aides of domestic violence.
The source said the governor has agreed not to seek election, but he will not resign – opting to serve out the remainder of his term.
Paterson was seen as un-electable and trailed Cuomo in head-to-head match-ups. With Paterson dropping out it’s one less thing for the Democrats to worry about.
