Reid in a world of hurt in polls

The Las Vegas Review-Journal has a poll out pitting incumbent Harry Reid (D-NV) against some possible Republican opponents, and boy, it sure ain’t pretty for the Reid camp:

• Sue Lowden, former Nevada Republican Party chairwoman, would get 50 percent of the vote to Reid’s 40 percent with 10 percent undecided.

• Danny Tarkanian, a businessman and former UNLV basketball star, would gain 49 percent of the vote to Reid’s 41 percent.

• And Sharron Angle, a former Reno assemblywoman, would get 45 percent of the vote to Reid’s 40 percent, a strong showing given her low name recognition statewide — 42 percent don’t know her.

Most troublesome is the last bullet. Yeah, who’s Sharron Angle? But it’s so bad for Reid that he even lags 5% against her, a virtually unknown name in local politics.

Reid is unlikely to follow the footsteps of Sens. Dodd and Dorgan, however. He seems confident that he’ll have enough time by November to swing some voters around.

Let’s keep up the pressure in Nevada. It would be quite a symbolic win, but most of all, the people of Nevada deserves a much better senator in Washington.
