Okay, somebody explain this to me: the GOP vehemently opposed ObamaCare and managed to stir the pot but still lost the battle. ObamaCare is now law and the president got what he wanted, thanks to his field generals Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and shadow soldiers of the so-called “moderate” Democrats led by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI). Republicans argued that a government health care program would lead to higher insurance premiums, lower quality of care, health care rationing, and a long lasting adverse impact on the already fragile economy.
Well, the Republicans are right, and they need to look no further than former Gov. Mitt Romney’s Massachusetts. In 2006 the Massachusetts health care reform law was enacted and mandated that the state’s residents obtain a minimum level of health care coverage. Fast forward to 2009 and Massachusetts in feeling the heat to insure so many people:
Massachusetts is struggling to keep the state’s groundbreaking coverage program running. Against a massive budget shortfall, lawmakers are planning to cut about 30,000 legal, taxpaying immigrants out of the system, which requires nearly everyone in the state to have health insurance coverage.
Whalen said the state health care plan did not have a sufficient revenue stream from the start, and that Romney could face sharp criticism for that from fiscal conservatives in a 2012 Republican primary.
So why is Romney getting so much love when RomneyCare is failing Massachusetts and ObamaCare is #1 on the national agenda? Are the Republicans insane?! Have they learned nothing???
Granted, Romney has an impressive private sector and public service resume. The guy knows how to run a company and how to pick political winners (a la Scott Brown). But enough with the infatuation already. The GOP needs somebody without so much baggage. The GOP needs a person who’s not from the establishment but articulate and principled. You know, somebody like Marco Rubio (R-FL) or Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)…
