This sucks for the Republicans.
Republican Gov. Mark Sanford had gone missing over Father’s Day weekend, thought to be hiking in the Appalachians Trail, but was sighted in Atlanta’s airport and today drops a bomb at his press conference: I have an affair with a woman in Argentina.
Sanford had so much going for him. He had found a following among conservatives by rejecting federal stimulus money, but ultimately his decision was overturned by the state legislature. He led the Republican Governor’s Association. He’d been promoted as a possible 2012 presidential candidate.
Well, looks like his mistake will take on a heavy toll on his career and prospects. It’s a shame.
