Unethical Rangel

The House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct has found Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) to be in ethics violation stemming from trips he took to the Caribbean:

The House ethics panel has been investigating several trips taken by Mr. Rangel and several other Democratic lawmakers in 2007 and 2008. The investigation looked at travel by Mr. Rangel to conferences in 2007 and 2008. At issue is whether companies that employ lobbyists sponsored the conferences and whether Mr. Rangel properly disclosed the names of the sponsors on travel disclosure forms filed with the House.

The ethics panel in June said a November 2008 conference in St. Maarten was arranged by “an organization known as Carib News or Carib News Foundation.” Travel forms filed by some of the lawmakers on the trip listed the New York Carib News as the sponsor of the event.

Unfortunately for us, Rangel heads the House Ways and Means Committee in charge of writing the tax code. The ethics panel will release its findings on Friday, and if Rep. Rangel has any dignity left in him he’d formally resign as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee.

My guess is that the mainstream media won’t be covering this news much…
