Blogging changes the world, even if it’s an analog blog

What’s an analog blog, you ask? Good ol’ chalk and blackboard. In Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, a gentleman by the name of Alfred Sirleaf gets up every morning and hand writes the day’s headline and news onto blackboards for the public to see. Amazingly, lines of cars and people queue up at his news hut to get their dose of news. Most people in Monrovia cannot afford to buy the newspaper, and Internet access is out of the question. According to Sirleaf, electricity is in short supply and a newspaper sometimes can cost as much as US$5 per copy!

The name of his “blog” is simply Daily Talk — no fancy templates, no pretty fonts (except his good handwriting), no links. He does have a box for reader suggestions and feedback, though.

Write on, Mr. Sirleaf.
