China learns lesson from Iran in dealing with Xinjiang protests

Tweets about the Iran election continue to pour in, making #IranElection still a top Twitter trend. But you’re not going to see many tweets about, say, the deadly protests in China’s remote Urumqi, Xinjiang province where 140 have died.

Communist China, the operator of the world’s largest firewall (often dubbed the “Great Firewall of China”), learned from what happened in Iran and quickly cut off and blocked Internet access. No YouTube vides, no tweets, no Facebook or MySpace updates.

No strong condemnation from the West yet. Most people are watching the Michael Jackson memorial taking place in Los Angeles.
