While most of the world’s media is tuned into the protests in Iran over the fraudulent presidential election, a few hundred protesters gathered in Shishou, Hebei province, China to protest the authority’s handling of 24-year-old Tu Yuangao’s death. The protesters claim a government cover-up of Tu’s death as suicide rather than murder. Tu was an employee at a local hotel which the owner’s known to be well-connected to the mayor and uses the hotel for illegal drug activities.
What’s interesting about this event is that ordinary folks captured photos and video of the protest and police crackdown. Again, the Internet is freeing critical information about extraordinary events around the world.
